Fraxel laser procedure will begin by using a topical anesthetic. If you are having a significant area of skin treated, your doctor will develop a pain management approach to maximize your comfort during the procedure.
You will experience a mild sunburn sensation for about an hour and then minimal discomfort. Any swelling generally resolves in 2 to 3 days. The skin will have a pinkish or bronzed tone for 5 to 7 days, depending on your treatment type. Your skin will begin to flake as new skin replaces dead tissue. All of these effects are normal signs of skin repair.
Depending on the type of problem being treated, you may be able to return to routine activities, including work and social obligations, the day after treatment. Your dermatologist and treatment coordinator will review the post-procedure plan with you at your consultation to determine how Fraxel laser treatment will fit into your schedule.
