Fraxel Laser Treatment
The Fraxel Dual laser is ideal for mild to moderate skin damage.
Fraxel developed the original technology for fractional resurfacing in the early 2000s. The most recent version of the Fraxel is the Fraxel Dual, which is what is used at SkinfitMD.
The Fraxel Dual laser is ideal for mild to moderate skin damage. Utilizing dual laser wavelengths for maximum versatility, it treats wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, enlarged pores, actinic keratoses(pre-cancerous lesions), melasma, uneven pigmentation and age spots. Downtime is minimal and results are achieved over a series of treatments. Fraxel is much more effective than other types of skin rejuvenation such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion. Improvements from Fraxel are progressive, cumulative, and long lasting.

Frequently Asked Questions
The system uses an advanced version of ‘fractional technology’. Fractional laser treatment only treats specific ‘fractions’ of the damaged skin, and leaves any normal skin intact.
When applied to the skin, Fraxel laser creates tiny microthermal zones deep into the skin. This helps the repair process by pushing out the damaged skin and replacing it with new skin. Each laser treatment replaces a specific amount of the sun damaged, scarred or wrinkled skin; and triggers the body’s natural healing process, accelerating the production of collagen and healthy skin cells.
Fraxel laser procedure will begin by using a topical anaesthetic. If you are having a significant area of skin treated, your doctor will develop a pain management approach to maximize your comfort during the procedure.
You will experience a sunburn sensation for a few hours and then minimal discomfort. Any swelling generally resolves in 3 to 4 days. The skin will have a pinkish or bronzed tone for 5 to 7 days, depending on your treatment type. Your skin will begin to exfoliate as new skin replaces dead tissue. All of these reactions are normal signs of skin repair.
Depending on the type of concern being treated, you may be able to return to routine activities, including work and social obligations, the day after treatment. The SkinfitMD team will review the post-procedure plan with you at your consultation to determine how Fraxel laser treatment will fit into your schedule.
SkinFitMD also offers the Fraxel Re:pair. The Re:pair is a fractionated carbon dioxide resurfacing laser and is a modern approach to deep skin resurfacing. The Re:pair is associated with more post treatment downtime and recovery. We would be happy to discuss any potential resurfacing procedure with you during a consultation.
